  • Extensive hands-on experience & detailed knowledge on yacht management, including passage planning, improvement projects & maintenance.
  • Owner of "Mondo Cosseri", a liveaboard motorsailer with two masts (ketch) and a dinghy. Waterline length is 11 meters. She is equally at home in the ocean, canals, rivers, on tidal flats or among ice floats. This is because she has a steel hull with three keels and three propellers. She has been professionally built and refit in England and she is flying the British flag (United Kingdom Ship Register). Ongoing ownership since 2006.

  • My full legal name is “Vassilios Kosseris”. In the past, I was known as “Vas” but I prefer to go by the name of “Vassili”

WORK EXPERIENCE

06/2006–Present Yacht maintenance Own yacht (Mondo Cosseri), Kefalonia (Greece)

Hands-on maintenance tasks include carpentry & joinery to improve access to the steel inside the hull, steel surface preparation to remove rust, applying epoxy resin & antifouling coatings, fiberglassing for repairs to the top structure of the yacht and to the dinghy, unstepping & stepping of masts to navigate inland waters, maintenance of marinised diesel engines, generators & hydraulic systems, cleaning of tanks, battery maintenance, testing and replacing 12V & 240V electrics, updating marine electronics, cleaning pumps & plumbing, updating safety systems, painting and varnishing

08/08/2009–17/11/2009 Captain Own yacht (Mondo Cosseri)

  • Planned down to the smallest detail and executed a successful passage on my yacht from London to Kefalonia
  • Motored from Burnham-on-Crouch, U.K. to Argostoli in Kefalonia, Greece via French rivers and the Strait of Messina
  • Approximately 2,000 n.m. under various weather conditions, including night navigation

2007–2009 Improvement projects Own yacht (Mondo Cosseri), Burnham-on-Crouch (United Kingdom)

  • Conceived the ideas, researched technical details and supervised the implementation of the following improvement projects: installation of a second diesel engine; an electric generator; a hydraulic system powering two additional propellers; household electrical appliances & power showers with their supporting systems; an electric toilet with holding tank, etc.
  • Also, the addition, per my designs, of a hot tub, a second separate cabin, a second head and the conversion of the open cockpit aft to a third cabin
  • Personally installed marine electronics, TV, CCTV, alarms and other electrical devices. Applied my carpentry, steel expertise and fiberglassing skills on numerous small projects

Sailing a Moody 346 from Burnham-on-Crouch U.K. to Calais France and back for a total of 130 n.m. over 24 night hours

Sailed on a chartered Rhodes 42 to Block Island and back to Rhode Island

05/1991–05/1991 First Mate Chesapeake Bay (United States)

Sailed on a chartered Dickerson 37 in the Chesapeake Bay for 3 days

1989–1991 First Mate New York (United States)

Sailed on a Sabre 34 in Long Island Sound over 3 summers. Member of the St Bart’s Community Club
